New filmed footage.
Location: My house and down the road to the seafront

I have now imported my new footage, to be edited and put into the short film.

Planning: FILMING AND MUSIC

Filming for the short film:
Location:  Southend

All the twins I shall be using live in and around Southend therefore my filming will take place in Southend. I aim to set up a few shoots so I can have different backgrounds throughout the film, this will make it more interesting. I need to consider mise en scène, including setting, props, costume, makeup, lighting and figure/performance whilst filming.

LOCATION SHOTS:
Bishopsteighton (walking shots)

Thorpe Bay Seafront
The Local Park

Music:
Music is a common technique used in short films. The music almost always relates in some way to how the film is being portrayed. I would say it is one of the most important parts choosing what music suits your film, as this is one of the first things that the audience shall hear, giving them their first impressions of the film. Not only this, but a catchy song that might stick in their head might also leave them with a positive memory of my film.

Having watched this short film, (although it has nothing to with my type of genre of film) it is very useful to how they have considered the pace, editing and use of music. The music and pace is very fast therefore they have used so many different shots in a short time of space.

POSSIBLE CHOICES-

Having listened to this a few times, it is really catchy. It could be suitable for my short film.

THE XX- HEART SKIPPED A BEAT.

THE NAKED AND FAMOUS- YOUNG BLOOD

Listening to the beginning and the ending of this song, I think this may be the one. The Beginning of the song would be perfect for the panning shots I am thinking of having.

I aim to have a well-recorded voiceover and sound effects (if necessary). This soundtrack will create the mood and controls the changes of mood and pace throughout. The camera angles I aim to have backed by the soundtrack will use a fair range of well-framed shot distances and angles. Camera only unsteady where needed for narrative purposes. This is will be controlled and effective.

Planning: 25 WORD TREATMENT

Below is a 25 word treatment, these words are the issues associated with my short film. This treatment will help channel my thoughts. I have used some of my images I took when filming, I decided to also put them in black and white. I think this theme with run throughout my pieces.

Production: TEASER TRAILER

A Teaser Trailer

Here is a trailer I created on imovie. I have used some of the footage I am planning to use for my Short film. It really isn't the project that I wanted to do, I filmed my footage with the view to creating a short film. This template would be beneficial with regards to the timing, however I have chosen not to create a trailer. Having watched other trailers, I realise the amount of different shots you need, I want my short film to be creative and look good so I want to film more and have this different variety of shots. I am viewing this imovie piece as a teaser for my short film. Below is a list of things I need to do and edit so far.

PLANNING: Focus Group

My Focus Group

I have specifically chosen my focus group, as I want to make sure it appeals and interests people who aren't a twin. I have chosen 3 of my peers ( two who don't study media and one who does) and a media student in the year below. I will be asking my focus group throughout the whole process different questions, and showing them the process and edit anything that they think needs fixing. I will value their opinions and take them onboard.

Planning: Story board

STORYBOARD-
I have created this storyboard from the documentary 'Twincredibles'. These are some of the shots I will include in my short film.

I have also hand drawn a rough storyboard of my short film. This shows were the interviews will come into sequence.

There will be many more shot types going on, this is the basis of the film.

PRODUCTION: filming and editing complications

Decision Process:
Whilst looking over my footage I found that some of it wasn't centered as I would like. I will re shoot these parts or use other footage.
I also found the background on one set of twins footage didn't match the same as the others so I might consider changing this aswell.

PLANNING: QUESTIONS ASKED IN INTERVIEW

Here is an example of some of the things/questions that I shall be featuring in the short film

PLANNING: PHOTOGRAPHS

Here are some of the photos which have been taken along with the footage. These photos may be used for the ancillary products

PLANNING: TEXTUAL ANALYSIS

'Twincredibles follows five sets of twins, from toddlers through to adults, to create a surprising and compelling story about the journey of mixed-race Britain. The stories of all these twins throw a new and fascinating light on how brothers and sisters who are similar in so many other ways lead different lives because of their skin colour. The experiences don't always match the stereotype. For teenage boys James and Daniel, growing up in Eltham South East London, it was the whiter-looking twin Daniel who suffered racial abuse, whilst darker twin James was left alone.' BBC TWO
Having watched this documentary about twins, I feel it is significant to examine the different techniques and shots it has used.
Some key shots I will consider for my short film are:    Extreme close ups  (voiceover the top)
Playing on a swing. Symmetrical, Clear background, However I plan to have the twins looking towards the camera smiling.

More close up and mid shots of the twins themselves. Shown when that twin is speaking.
Two twins in cots (if i can find some twin babies) however just showing that there are two of everything!

Two sets of shoes (identical shoes if the twins are similar) or non-identical shoes if different.

Walking along.
Showing similarity/difference.

Establishing shot of where the footage has been filmed. I don't plan on having the text underneath.
This documentary has a narrative over the top which is constructed by the twins themselves. I plan to have twin interviews and my own voice over the top. Whilst some of the twins are talking it shows different shots of the twin talking, I thought this was very effective and certainly a convention of short films/documentaries.

I researched into the response of the documentary. I came across a clip on youtube where one lady felt that the overall documentary had a negative tone. They commented that the film commented on the problems of being a twin. They didnt feel that there were a balance between benefits and negatives of being a twin. I aim to represent twins in both lights and to keep my piece in a positive light and weigh out the positives and negatives of being a twin. Keeping it far more balanced than 'The Twincredibles' documentary.

RESEARCH: Other/previous media texts

Human twin studies + Research I have found...

^ In this short film i like the technique used of the photographs shots. I would like to do something similar, or even use these photographs for my ancillary products.

^ This documentary on twins is great for my research, It is so relevant to what i am doing. Mainly it focuses on the scenario of one white twin and one black twin. I came across all of these videos on youtube. I will mainly look into this documentary and study the different camera angles and use of music.

This clip is taken from the Ellen show, this clip could show the connection that twins supposedly have and could add to the content of my film.

This is a trailer about a documentary based on identical twins. There aren't the shots I would like in my short film, Having watched this I want to consider the background and maybe include some photos.

The Olsen twins are very famous, This is an interview with them. They are talking about some things that may feature in the content of my short film.

This is just a short piece I found on youtube. The girls are introducing themselves with a plain white background (something I need to consider), which I may have in mine. I wont have the text coming up in mine though.
This film is a comical film, two twins that look nothing like eachother.

The Parent Trap (1998) is a film about twins being separated at birth then discovering they are twins at a summer camp.

This is another documentary about a set of twins who were separated at birth. It shows them being reunited when they are older. This piece has many different shot types that I should consider.
